"In der Weihnachtsbäckerei, gibt es manche Leckerei..." This German Song basically says that when you're baking for Christmas you'll end up with a lot of tasty treats! And that's what I did.
It's a tradition in Germany to bake "Weihnachtsplätzchen" (Christmas cookies) during December in joyful anticipation of Christmas. They come in all sizes, shapes and tastes. My Mum and I usually make about 5-8 different types each year.
This year, of course, we can't bake together. So I thought I could at least try to introduce my American roommates to a few German holiday traditions.
I started this blog as a project for my Social Media Marketing class at UCR in September 2012 and named it "Fee loves Travelling" - well, because it's true. I discovered that I actually enjoy writing about travelling so I decided to keep the blog going even after the class finished. So now you can read about my current and past adventures here :)

The ROI of Social Media
In this week's class we talked about the Return on Investment of Social Media. The ROI, that's your ration of profit to costs. Because contrary to what everybody says, Social Media is not free! You invest time, you need the equipment and there are opportunity costs.

To give everybody the opportunity to go trick or treatin' we didn't have to attend our Social Media Class yesterday, but participated in a Twitter Chat instead!

Fun facts on a country you think you know everything about
Woho! First personal post!
I've been in Cali for a little more than 6 weeks now, so it might be time to explain why I'm here. I mean, I could have gone basically anywhere for my semester abroad, like France, Spain, Norway, England, Canada or South Africa. But I chose the States. Because I love American music, TV shows, novels and the accent. And because it is a country so present in the European media that you think you know it like the back of your hand. But you don't.
That's why I started collecting some interesting peculiarities of stuff that contradicts or backs up the preconceptions that Europeans tend to have of Americans.

Could Taco Bell be successful in Asia?
This week's class was all about case studies. We looked at several companies and how they are getting along in the Social media world. Me and my team mates took a closer look at Taco Bell, the American Tex-Mex Fast food chain. What really caught my attention was the fact, that is hard for Taco Bell to be embraced by some cultures especially in Asia and Europe.

The Importance of Marketing yourself
So in class we've been asked to think about why it is important to market youself.
I guess the most important reason is as simple as that: You can have the greatest product in the world, but if nobody knows about it you won't sell a piece!

More thoughts on Social Media
Social Media has become so successful in such a short amount of time, probably because it helps to satisfy the basic human need to communicate. It has never been easier to keep in contact with 100, 200, 500 or even more people. Social Media platforms like Twitter or Facebook give you the opportunity to keep in touch with friends, family or colleagues from all over the world. And they give you the opportunity to present yourself.

Welcome!
So I'm sitting here in my Social Media Marketing class at UC Riverside and within just a few minutes, I've already been turned into a blogger - hello world, meet blogger-Fee (not that any English speaking person is confused: Fee is my nickname and it does NOT have to do anything with money, it actually translates fairy).
Well, what shall my first post be about? As this is a Social Media class, it kind of makes sense to talk about Social Media Marketing. I'm taking this class cause I'm very interested in Marketing and digital media. I've already learned a lot about Online Marketing, whether it was at University or working at arvato, and I've written two papers on Mobile Marketing. But so far, Social Media has been kind of missing in my studies. It has always been referred to, but I've never been able to go into details. That's what I hope to do in this class. I don't just want to hear some theoretical stuff about Social Media Marketing, I want to learn how to really do it myself because - you never know - I might just work in an Online agency or as a Brand Manager some day.
But why would you need to know about Social Media Marketing for these jobs, you could ask me. Well, today we don't know where Social Media is going. Some people say it's totally overrated, some say it's the one and only future. I say, it's interesting and it can't hurt to know how to deal with it in a professional way.
And to avoid any confusion: this blog is called Fee loves Travelling but for now, as this blog is my class assignment, it will be mainly about Social Media and my SMM class. I might just turn it into a travel blog though, when this class is finished.
